'Quiteness' and customer service

Getting customer service here is like trying to sweep the ocean with a broom.

It has been almost a month now that I applied for internet connection, and still I have no god damn connection. The customer service in England is slow, and they have a good deaf ear when you scream at them on the phone. Only when you threaten to leave their service and go with their competitors do they get off their lazy asses and get the ball running.

I forgot to mention, I'm almost getting my connection. Should be anytime now. I'm almost there. For others, it takes longer than what I am facing. A friend of mine got his connection two weeks ago, which was 3 months after he applied. Haha. Horrifying. Yes?

I think the public here is pretty much quiet. They are too polite sometimes. They don't fight for their rights. Maybe they need to get introduced to the suing culture :) . Yesterday, I was in the train and this family came on board the train right after I entered. It was rush hour at that time, and all the seats were filled up. The family had two cute little girls dressed in pink... but they had no place to sit.

Before the train took off the two girls complained (in their cute British accents) about not having a place to sit. Their mother, perhaps too shy or too nice, didn't ask for other passengers to relinquish their seats and instead told her two daughters to sit on the floor once the train started to move. To my amazement, no one who saw them, be it British, African-British, Asian, Indian - no one - said anything! Arghhh. I couldn't stand it anymore. I tapped on the shoulder one of the guys who was sitting and said this "Could you please give your seat to these two girls? They're sitting on the floor".

To the guy who was sitting's defence, he didn't see the family. He immediately gave up his seat.

After I had the balls to say that, only then does everyone else act as if they helped. "Good one", said one of the guys to me. The mother was like "no no you don't have to do that... thank you". Urghh.
